Views111See moreThe symptoms of ovarian tumor are not specific and a rare presentation of the tumor is as the content of an inguinal hernia. We reported a case of an 82-year-old woman, diagnosed with breast cancer and with a concomitant hypoecoic adnexal mass at the ecographic exam. The patient was treated with conservative breast surgery and laparotomy. A cystic-solid ovarian lesion was found inside the right inguinal canal. Frozen-section examination was negative for malignancy, and the anatomopathological analysis revealed a borderline ovarian tumor.

Views59See moreMonoamniotic twin pregnancies are very rare, but they are associated with high fetal morbidity and mortality. There is much controversy regarding the follow-up and obstetric procedures towards prenatal diagnosis of intertwined umbilical cords. In this article, we describe a case of monoamniotic pregnancy with diagnosis of intertwined umbilical cords, and we discuss aspects related to the follow-up and obstetric procedures through a brief literature review.

Views76Benign metastazing leiomyomatosis (BML) is a rare disease in which the lung is the most affected extra-uterine organ. The BML histology is compatible with benignity and similar to that found in the myometrial leiomyoma. A history of surgically treated uterine myomatosis is reported by most of the patients with metastatic disease. We report the cases of two patients with uterine metastazing leiomyomatosis. In the first case, a 55-year-old patient presented lung nodes over 20 years after being submitted to hysterectomy due to uterine leiomyoma. The histological and immunohistochemical studies from the lung node revealed that it was an implant of benign leiomyoma. The second patient, a 65-years-old woman, presented lung and retroperitoneal nodes 20 years after being submitted to a hysterectomy due to uterine leiomyoma.

Views74See morePURPOSE: to present a series of cases of membranous dysmenorrhea. METHODS: all the patients selected were under diagnostic suspicion, after being clinically attended in a private medical office due to the report of painful dysmenorrhea associated with spontaneous elimination of elastic material with uterine shape. Only relevant facts about the pain condition have been described, together with the present and previous medical history and life habits. The material eliminated was forwarded to the pathology laboratory, where the macro and microscopic analyses were done. Cases with no confirmation of membranous material elimination were not selected. After the diagnostic confirmation, literature up to 2008 was carried out using the MeSH method, with the words "membranous dysmenorrheal". RESULTS: three cases of dysmenorrhea were transcribed. Besides the characteristic picture of pain and vaginal elimination of elastic material, all the cases were associated with the use of hormonal contraceptive methods. CONCLUSIONS: despite the fact that there are only sporadic reports of cases of membranous dysmenorrhea in the scientific literature, this etiology must be considered in cases of pain associated with vaginal bleeding plus elimination of elastic or solid material. The final diagnosis depends on anatomopathological exam, which should not be dismissed. We highlight the need for more discussion about this pathology, to keep the professionals updated with the aim of exerting adequate diagnosis and therapeutics.

Views69See moreDesmoid tumor is a noncapsulated neoplasia, locally aggressive, originated from the fibroblasts of the musculo-aponeurotic tissues. Even though with no malignant behavior, such as the ability of generating metastasis or of invasion, the desmoid tumor has a high tendency for local growth, causing deformities in the adjacent organs, pain and sometimes organ dysfunction, depending on the area involved. We report the case of a large intra-abdominal desmoid tumor, invading pelvic organs in a 53 year-old patient. The neoplasia has been totally extirpated and, at the moment, five years after the surgery, the patient presents no clinical or radiologic sign of lesion relapse.

Views68See moreHeterotopic gestation, characterized by the presence of combined topic and ectopic gestation, until recently was considered to be a rare event occurring in 1:30,000 pregnancies. With the appearance of assisted reproduction techniques, this incidence increased to 1:100-500 gestations. Early diagnosis is difficult and frequently is made when the uterine tube has already ruptured. It's presented a case of heterotopic pregnancy diagnosed by means of a clinical presentation of hemorrhagic acute abdomen, with good progression of the topic gestation that resulted in birth. It's pointed out the importance of considering this pathology in the evaluation of women submitted to in vitro fertilization, with the objective of early treatment.

Views111See moreDermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare malignant neoplasia in gynecology, with probability of recurrence and low possibilities of metastasis. A 34-year-old patient after endometriosis treatment presented pain in the left inguinal region. She reported sensation of gradual increase in a solid nodule, painless at palpation, with difficult mobilization. Exeresis was proceeded with diagnostic hypothesis of endometriosis. Microscopy revealed a mesenchymal neoplasia characterized by proliferation of monomorphic fusiform cells and storiform aspect characterizing the DFSP.DFSP must be remembered in the differential diagnosis of the affections of the inguinal region in gynecology because it represents a malignant neoplasia, although it's rare.
