A case of urethral leiomyoma - a mass of approximately 5 cm in diameter - located on the anterior wall of the vaginal lower third is reported. The patient was submitted to a surgical tumor excision. Histopathological and immunohistochemical studies indicated leiomyoma, which is always a benign, unusual neoplasm, rarely relapsing after excision. Its pathogenesis and clinical features are also focused on.

PURPOSE: to compare the incidence of preterm deliveries, and of low birth weight newborns, among primiparous adolescents, from two age groups. METHODS: this is a comparative, cross-sectional clinical study composed of 522 primiparous adolescents whose deliveries occurred at the gestational age of 25 to 42 weeks. The adolescents were divided into 2 groups according to their age; Gprec: from 10 to 15 complete years old (n=104); Gtard: from 16 to 19 complete years old (n=418). The research data were obtained by an individualized, confidential and ethical interview, soon after delivery; and by a written questionnaire with questions about the gestational age in complete weeks, and about the newborns birth weight. The gestational age was calculated at the delivery day, according to the date of the last trustworthy menstrual period, being also confirmed by the earliest pregnancy scanning or by Capurro's index, when there were any doubts about the previously described parameters. All newborns with gestational age under 37 weeks at birth were considered preterm babies. The newborn weight was taken by neonatologists immediately after delivery; all newborns with less than 2,500g were considered to be low weight babies. Thus, we compared prematurity rate and low birth weight among newborns from primiparous puerperal adolescents. The chi² test was used for the statistic analysis and the partition chi² test for the found differences. As the significancy level was 0.05 (alpha =5%), lower levels than that were considered significant. RESULTS: the prematurity rate was not significantly different between the two groups (5.8 and 2.6%). The incidence of low birth weight in Gprec (13.5%) was significantly higher than in Gtard (3.1%). CONCLUSIONS: the group with primiparous adolescents under 15 years old showed a significantly higher risk of low birth weight newborns. However, a statistically significant incidence of prematurity between the groups studied was not verified.

The fistulas caused by mechanical trauma are rare, mainly the intrinsic type caused by vesical lithiasis. The treatment of these fistulas is controversial, concerning the ideal surgical technique. Several techniques have been developed, including the transvaginal and the transabdominal surgical approaches. The authors report the case of a patient with urinary loss for six months. Physical and radiological examination showed the occurrence of a vesicovaginal fistula caused by vesical lithiasis. The treatment was in two stages: first the extraction of the vesical stone by transabdominal approach and second, the correction of the fistula by transvaginal approach.

Paracoccidioidomycosis is an important systemic endemic mycosis in Latin America. This infection is usually acquired via inhalation of mycelial particles. Most infected subjects develop an asymptomatic infection, which is associated with various host-related factors such as sex, age, genetic, as well as characteristics of the infecting agent, mainly its virulence. It is a systemic pathology. A case of mastitis due to paracoccidioidomycosis is presented with the objective to demonstrate that elderly patients with a breast abscess should be submitted to biopsy.

We report a malignant case of breast neoplasm, with the diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma. This rare neoplasm has a less aggressive biological behavior than the other types of breast sarcomas. That is the reason why we emphasize the correct diagnosis, and the necessity of graduating the neoplasm, for the patient's best follow-up. In our case, after 2 years of follow-up the patient continued with no relapse of the disease.

Brenner's tumor is small, unilateral and benign. Its diagnosis can only be confirmed by the anatomomicopathological examination, that on microscopy presents nests or columns of transition epithelial cells in a fibromatous matrix. The epithelial cells present a characteristic longitudinal "coffee bean" furrow and can undergo carcinomatous transformation. We present a case of a menopausal patient with vaginal bleeding, and a palpable abdominal mass. She was submitted to surgical treatment (total hysterectomy, bilateral oophorectomy and omentectomy) with the histopathological diagnosis of Brenner's bilateral tumor, being malignant on one side and benign on the other. After surgical treatment she is now alive for three years and free of disease.
